Market Art Fair 2025

Market Art Fair 2025 marked an important milestone in its journey of expansion, as the fair took over the entire Liljevalchs and Liljevalchs+ buildings.

Featuring 55 galleries and more than 150 artists, the fair presented a carefully curated selection of some of the most engaging Nordic and international contemporary art. For the first time in its history, Market Art Fair opened up to international presentations, while continuing to serve as the leading platform for the Nordic art scene. Over four days, the fair welcomed galleries from ten countries, seven first-time participants, and a record number of visitors and VIP guests.

The presentations were diverse, ranging from solo booths, such as Finnish rediscovery Iria Leino (Larsen Warner, SE), Icelandic artist Loji Höskuldsson (V1 Gallery, DK), and Dutch artist Louis Reith (Mini Galerie, NL) – to curated group shows and duo presentations. Highlights included Golsa’s (NO) reinterpretation of landscape painting and Andréhn-Schiptjenko’s (SE/FR) dialogue between emerging Afro-French artists Ranti Bam and Amine Habki.

As part of Market Extended, the section dedicated to large-scale and site-specific works beyond the booth context, Swedish artist Fabian Bergman Näsman (Coulisse Gallery, SE) created a sculpture specifically for the garden fountain at Blå Porten. The work will now become a permanent installation in Liljevalchs’ courtyard.

The collaboration with BMW and their Art Cars Commission continued into its third year, and for the first time, a non-Nordic artist was selected – underlining the fair’s international outlook. Celebrated German artist Gregor Hildebrandt (Avlskarl, DK) was the 2025 winner, and his techno-industrial design was showcased on a fleet of six electric vehicles, including the BMW i5 and i7, circulating throughout the city.

Market Art Fair also took an important step in amplifying its commitment to artistic freedom and human rights by partnering with Human Rights Watch, one of the world’s most influential organizations. Alongside the donation of a work by Finnish artist Aki Turunen to raise vital funds, the collaboration included a conversation on ‘Art as a Tool for Democracy’ as part of the fair’s talks program. Running parallel to the fair, this program also featured expert discussions on topics such as art as an investment and the Polish art scene, alongside inspirational presentations from well-known artists and cultural figures, and dynamic debates. A new addition to the public program was the Reading Room, a curated art book fair hosted in collaboration with Konst-ig, Art & Theory, and Antics.
