Market Art Fair

Larsen Warner, SE

The gallery, in its various guises, has been home to innovative, singular, and pioneering exhibitions across a variety of media and genres over the past 30 years.

Active in both the primary and secondary markets, Larsen Warner presents a dynamic exhibition programme of both emerging and established artists from Scandinavia as well as a strong focus on presenting influential and import international artists to a Swedish audience.

Christian Larsen founded his first gallery in 1996 in Östermalm, relocating to the gallery district of Hudiksvallsgatan in 2007. In September 2019 Christian Larsen and Director Darren Warner chose the opening of their new space at Sturegatan 28 to foster a closer collaboration, with the gallery name changing to Larsen Warner. Since moving to Sturegatan the gallery has continued to develop and highlight ambitious solo exhibitions alongside a rigorous programme of curated group exhibitions.

This year's presentation

For Market Art Fair 2025 Larsen Warner will present a solo booth from the estate of New York-based Finnish artist Iria Leino (1932–2022).

The booth marks the posthumous discovery of this important but virtually unknown artist who created a prolific body of work in solitude for over 40 years and whose work is now garnering international acclaim. Focusing on her work created during the 60’s and 70’s, the booth highlights the first two series that sparked her lifelong exploration of acrylic paint’s viscosity across a range of styles: the Colour Field and the Buddhist Rain series.

Larsen Warner’s presentation will mark the first time that Leino’s work has been presented in Sweden since her inclusion in the exhibition ‘Finsk bild: aktuell skulptur, måleri och grafik, Liljevalchs Konsthall in 1977, creating a wonderful ‘full circle’ moment for the artist and shedding light on her incisive contributions to the history of postwar abstraction. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring a historically important voice into the current dialogue around contemporary abstract painting.
