Market Art Fair

Coulisse Gallery, SE

Founded in early 2022 by Filip Zięciak and now co-led with Jeanette Gunnarsson, Coulisse Gallery is dedicated to highlighting emerging and innovative local and international artists at pivotal stages in their careers.

The gallery’s goal is to connect these artists with passionate collectors and art lovers both in Stockholm and beyond. Collaboration is central to the mission, and the gallery strives to bring a dynamic new energy to the city’s art scene by engaging with artists, galleries, and curators who explore shared visual and conceptual themes. These often include environmental concerns, gender issues, and queer identities.

This year's presentation

Coulisse Gallery is proud to present ‘Origins of the Body’, an exhibition exploring identity, transformation, and relational dynamics through the works of Julia Kowalska (b. 1998) and Fabian Bergmark Näsman (b.1991).

Kowalska’s work focuses on the complexities of beauty, power, and relationships among women— mothers, daughters, and sisters—highlighting how tenderness and control intertwine. She explores the dual nature of care and domination through evocative imagery, examining how these dynamics shape female identities within social and familial structures. Her art invites viewers to question traditional notions of femininity and the pressures that influence the female experience.

Bergmark Näsman’s sculptural practice investigates ideas of hybridity and regeneration. Starting from a singular “mother mould,” he uses dissection and reconstruction to create evolving, alien-like forms that oscillate between natural and unnatural. Each piece emerges as a new hybrid entity, reflecting on how identity can be reshaped while maintaining connections to its origins. Together, these artists investigate the construction and evolution of identity, revealing the tensions between intimacy, control, and transformation.
