BMW Art Commission at Market Art Fair 2023
For the 2023 fair, our partner BMW launched a new initiative in line with BMW Group’s commitment to promoting art and innovation. The BMW Art Commission supports emerging artists, and BMW proudly showcased the creativity of a Nordic artist at Market Art Fair 2023.
The initiative aimed to promote Nordic art by collaborating with artists participating in the fair and offering them the opportunity to stripe BMW i7 all-electric luxury vehicles circulating around Stockholm.
The chosen artwork for 2023 came from the talented Swedish-Estonian artist Siiri Jüris (Galleri Duerr, SE), whose dynamic and intuitive approach to painting captivated both the art world and the public. Her striking work, Chick Chick Keep It Hidden from Sunset to Midnight Blues, was featured on the fleet of BMW i7 all-electric luxury vehicles during the fair, bringing her vibrant vision to life on a larger-than-life scale.

Jüris’ painting is deeply influenced by Estonian game instructions from the national archives, which she uses as a springboard to explore her own childhood memories of play. Her fluid and colourful imagery evokes a sense of nostalgia and personal reflection, while also delving into broader themes. The work explores the evolving relationship between folklore and game culture, examining how these elements have shaped, and continue to shape, cultural identities across time and geographical boundaries. By blending the traditional with the modern, Jüris creates a compelling visual narrative that bridges the past and present, as well as different cultural influences. Through her work, she invites viewers to reconsider the ways in which folklore and play influence our lives, even in an increasingly digital and globalised world. As Jüris herself explains, the work reflects a deeper connection between these influences and their ongoing relevance.
‘I was pleasantly surprised how the painting adapted to the form of the car. The image developed a different sense of a ‘body’ from the 3D form of the vehicle. I find the new layout and form adds an additional layer to the artwork, concealing the action and figures of the original artwork in a more profound way.’
‘The potential for artistic creativity to impact social sustainability is vast and multifaceted. It can inspire and engage individuals, raise awareness and promote action on social issues, foster empathy and understanding within communities, and even lead to the development of innovative solutions for scientific or everyday challenges.’
