Market Art Fair 2026
Market Art Fair 2026, which took place in Stockholm from 23–26 April, marked a new chapter for the fair as it moved to Magasin 9 in Frihamnen for its 20th anniversary edition.
The new venue gave the fair space to grow, while bringing galleries, artists, collectors, and visitors together in a new part of the city. Featuring 54 galleries and more than 150 artists, the fair presented a carefully curated selection of Nordic and international contemporary art. Alongside established galleries from across the region, the fair welcomed 11 newer spaces founded since 2020, as well as participants from the U.S. and the U.K. Selection was overseen by a committee of Nordic museum directors and curators chaired by Lars Nittve, founding Director of Tate Modern. The fair’s selection process continues to place established and emerging galleries side by side, creating a dynamic presentation across the fair.
The anniversary edition welcomed a record number of visitors, a growing regional collector base, and an unprecedented number of international art advisors. Strong sales were reported throughout the fair, with several galleries selling out their presentations, reflecting continued interest in Nordic artists from both private and institutional collectors. The presentations ranged from solo booths and focused dialogues to larger thematic group presentations. Across the fair, galleries explored questions of materiality, identity, landscape, memory, and contemporary life through painting, sculpture, textile, installation, and moving image works.
Alongside the fair, the talks programme brought together artists, curators, collectors, and cultural voices for conversations on contemporary art and collecting today. The public programme also included guided tours, performances, installations, and Bacchanale Café, which returned as a social meeting point throughout the week.
