Market Art Fair

Gallery Franz Pedersen, DK

Founded in 1982 by Franz Pedersen and later helmed by his son Kasper Pedersen, Galleri Franz Pedersen has evolved through three generations, with Kamille Pedersen and their son Arthur joining in 2019.

The gallery’s history is rooted in a strong engagement with Danish contemporary art, representing influential figures such as Wilhelm Freddie, Svend W. Hansen, and Sven Dalsgaard. By the late 1980s, artists associated with “De Unge Vilde” – including Michael Kvium, Christian Lemmerz, and Lise Malinovsky – became central to the programme, which continued to expand to include Jean Rustin, Jacob Rantzau, Christoffer M. Andersen, and Maria Rubinke.

Under Kasper Pedersen’s leadership, the gallery has strengthened its profile while remaining committed to artistic excellence. Today, the programme is defined by a clear and focused vision: to present compelling contemporary art and to foster meaningful dialogue between artists, collectors, and the public, with an emphasis on project-driven initiatives.

This year's presentation

Gallery Franz Pedersen will present a curated encounter between Michael Kvium’s uncompromising figurative paintings and Christian Lemmerz’s sculptural investigations of the body. Rather than a mere juxtaposition of mediums, the presentation stages a dialogue between two artists whose often nihilistic reflections probe the individual, society, morality, and the psyche. Both emerged from the Danish “De Unge Vilde”-movement in the early 1980s – a generation that reasserted expressive, figurative, and frequently confrontational art.

Kvium and Lemmerz continue this legacy, each ina distinct yet resonant voice: Kvium’s canvases expose grotesque human truths and existential unease, often laced with biting irony, while Lemmerz’s sculptures embody those tensions in material form with uncompromising force, drawing on religious and classical iconography. Together, their works create not just a visual dialogue but a space of confrontation and reflection, engaging viewers psychologically and emotionally.
