This year's presentation
Across the exhibition, tension emerges between material and form—rooted in the inherent properties of each medium and the ways they are shaped and constrained. The presentation unfolds beneath a perpetual Starry Night, rendered in the form of cast bronze breads by Benedikte Bjerre. Marie Lund’s wall-mounted sculptures The Thickness sits on the wall as brackets framing Simon Dybbroe Møller’s photographic work Retinal Rift. Here, the mechanics of an organic eye – looking up and away – is captured by a machine eye, staging an encounter between the mechanical and the unsettlingly human, like glimpses into an abyss: a shared threshold of uncanny intelligence and fragile symbiosis. A sign high on the wall Ann Lislegaard’s Algorithms—Remains of a Language, gestures as a pause or comma. Meanwhile, Tora Schultz’s Pinocchio is bent and shaped with a face turned inward, the elongated nose concealed within the wall evoking the transformation of Carlo Collodi’s brutal 19th-century tale into Disney’s sanitized adaptation, mirroring the tension between acts of creation and the pressures of structural power.
