Michael Kvium (b. 1955) conjures in his paintings a kind of theatre of cruelty populated by representatives of humanity, revealing to us “The Naked Truth.”

Kvium tests the limits of how far one can go in depicting the raw and the grotesque in our contemporary world. In doing so, he preserves the vital connection between the artwork and the viewer. The problem, Kvium suggests, does not lie with the artist — it lies with the times.
