This year's presentation
For Market Art Fair 2026, Martin Asbæk Gallery will present new works by Kristian Dahlgaard, Nicolai Howalt and Clare Woods.
The presentation spans sculpture, conceptual photo-based art and painting, each very physically engineered by the artist. From large oil painting on aluminum sheets, over the careful assembling of twirling sculptures, to the arrangement of thousands of historical postal stamps.
Kristian Dahlgaard works extensively with the weight and the absence of mass, and his organic sculptures in bronze, aluminum or stainless steel are not cast, rather assembled according to a detailed model. Nicolai Howalt’s new series is based on stamps. Each stamp bears a portrait of Danish royalty, politicians and historical figures. These portraits are part of Denmark’s collective memory and add a social and historical dimension to the work. Clare Woods is occupied with exploring physical form in two-dimensional space. Her paintings are essentially concerned with sculpting an image in paint on aluminum sheets.
