Galleri Riis, NO
Galleri Riis was founded in Trondheim in 1972 by collectors Inger and Andreas L. Riis, and has been based in Oslo since 1980. From 2011 to 2017 the gallery operated a second space in Stockholm which confirmed the gallery’s importance on the Scandinavian art scene.
In August 2016, the Oslo gallery relocated to a renovated 1890’s residential building in the city centre. The current exhibition program reflects a long-standing history, with a primary focus on important contemporary art from the Nordic countries including a selective spotlight on international artists. Over the years, the gallery has mounted a number of historic exhibitions with contemporary and modern masters. Galleri Riis is owned and directed by Espen Ryvarden and Kristin Elisabeth Bråten.

This year's presentation
For Market Art Fair 2026, Galleri Riis will present a two-person exhibition featuring Lisa Tan (b. 1973, Syracuse, USA) and Marte Johnslien (b. 1977, Lillehammer, Norway).
The presentation brings together works from Tan’s ongoing Dictionary series and Johnslien’s sculptural project Gaea Norvegica. Tan presents large-scale digital print diptychs and wallpaper, including the new work The Swedish Language in the Dictionary, shown alongside the Basque and Norwegian works and the English-language wallpaper. Her practice examines the relationship between language and image, revealing how meaning is constructed, withheld, and shaped by linguistic and cultural systems.
Johnslien’s sculptures, made from glazed ceramics and scrap iron, draw on material research, geology, and alchemical traditions. In Gaea Norvegica, she explores the origins and symbolic charge of titanium dioxide, tracing connections between Norwegian soil, industrial history, and the transformation of matter.
Together, the works create a dialogue between image and language, material and meaning, offering a reflection on how knowledge is formed, framed, and made visible.
