Galleri Haaken, NO
Galleri Haaken was founded in Oslo in 1961 by the art historian, gallerist and art dealer Haaken A. Christensen (1924–2008).
From its very first exhibition, which featured 45 linocuts by Pablo Picasso, the gallery became a key conduit for international modernism in Norway, introducing major artists to a local audience while cultivating a lasting dialogue between Norwegian and European art.
Over the years, Galleri Haaken has presented a wide spectrum of modern and contemporary art, from the pioneering abstract painters of the postwar period to leading voices in contemporary practice. The gallery’s long history reflects both continuity and renewal: it has remained faithful to a clear curatorial vision rooted in artistic quality and integrity, while continuously engaging with new artistic expressions. Today located at Tjuvholmen in Oslo and directed by Line Obrestad and Fredrik Nergaard, Galleri Haaken maintains its position as one of Norway’s foremost galleries.

This year's presentation
“Uncharted Realms” brings together Astrid Nondal and Munan Øvrelid, two painters who explore the shifting borders between imagination and memory. Nondal’s tempera landscapes evoke nature as an inner state. Silent, tactile, and luminous. While Øvrelid’s theatrical interiors assemble fragments of myth, art history, surrealism and everyday absurdity into new architectures of meaning. Both artists reflect on painting’s ability to hold time and consciousness within its surface, transforming memory into presence. Seen together, their works form a double cartography: Nondal tracing the emotional afterimage of nature, Øvrelid mapping the restless imagination of culture, each searching for what remains “outside the map”.
