Romina Bassu, IT
Romina Bassu (b. 1982) is a Rome-based visual artist whose practice examines the construction of feminine stereotypes shaped by patriarchal structures and a culture of consumption.
Working primarily in painting, she investigates how images of women are codified, idealised and circulated, and how these representations shape lived experience.
Her recent works centre on the relationship between woman, body and vulnerability. Through a precise and psychologically charged pictorial language, Bassu traces an existential space where fragility and resistance coexist. Reclaiming this space becomes an act of quiet defiance – a way of restoring humanity and authenticity in a culture that demands constant performance and productivity, extending even to the female body.
Bassu studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Seville. She has received several awards and has exhibited internationally since 2013.

“They are women captured in moments of vulnerability, revealing their inner turmoil, trapped between high heels, impeccable hairstyles, and the weight of expectations. I explore the perpetual conflict between reality and the ideals imposed on them.”
