Emily Gernild, DK
Danish painter Emily Gernild creates lush still-life compositions that blend abstraction and representation. Her works explore vitality, growth, and the cycles of life through fruits, seeds, flowers, and vessels rendered in earthy tones and vibrant hues.
Using rabbit-skin glue and rich pigment, Gernild achieves luminous, textured surfaces, giving her paintings a sensuous, ethereal quality. While celebrating abundance, her works occasionally hint at underlying existential tension, creating a layered dialogue between beauty, impermanence, and reflection.
Gernild’s work has been exhibited in museums such as ARKEN, Trapholt (permanent collection), Rønnebæksholm, Kastrupgårdsamlingen (permanent collection), Gl. Holtegaard, and Vestjyllands Kunstmuseum. She had her first major solo exhibition at Gl. Holtegaard in 2023/2024. From June 2025, Gernild will be part of a two-person show at the Vigeland Museum in Oslo. Emily Gernild’s works can be found in both European and North American collections. She has also had various significant gallery exhibitions, including at CFA (Berlin), OSL Contemporary (Oslo), and Galleri Bo Bjerggaard (Copenhagen). Gernild received an honorary grant from the Niels Wessel Bagges Arts Foundation in 2021.
