Ross-Sutton Gallery, US/SE
Destinee Ross-Sutton is a Harlem-born curator, gallerist, and advisor recognised as a leading voice in contemporary and Black art.
Her landmark exhibitions—including Black Voices/Black Microcosm in Stockholm, Black Voices: Friend of My Mind in New York, and the Say It Loud series for Christie’s—emerged at a defining moment for racial justice and set a precedent that many have since followed. Other significant projects include the co-curation of 4000+ Years of African Art at Wall House Museum.
During the 60th Venice Biennale, her 34-artist exhibition Unapologetic WomXn: The Dream is the Truth foregrounded the multiplicity of women’s experiences across racial, cultural, and social contexts. Admired for her curatorial clarity as well as her influence within the artistic community, she has served as a muse to artists such as Amoako Boafo, Kehinde Wiley, and Vanessa Raw.
Ross-Sutton founded her namesake gallery in New York in 2020. Over the past three years, the gallery has taken on a nomadic form, presenting exhibitions in cities including London and New York.

This year's presentation
For the 20th edition of Market Art Fair, Ross-Sutton Gallery presents a curated selection of works by thirteen artists from across the African diaspora. At Market 2026, the gallery’s presentation will be a selection of smaller works from a larger exhibition to be organized by Ross-Sutton Gallery Stockholm, the first outpost outside of New York, bringing together painting, photography, and sculpture by thirteen artists – ten women and three men – a selection from the African diaspora. Among them are acclaimed figures such as Deborah Roberts, Amoako Boafo, and vanessa german, shown alongside emerging voices including Larissa de Souza, Joshua Adokuru, and Najaax Harun. Together, these artists explore themes of selfhood, spirituality, heritage, and beauty, presenting a dialogue that is both deeply personal and globally resonant.
This presentation reflects Ross-Sutton’s ongoing curatorial mission: to center compassion, connection, and representation in the art world, and to challenge reductive narratives about Africa and its diaspora. A return to Stockholm – where this journey began – offers an opportunity to revisit and renew the conversation about what Black contemporary art means today, and to share some of these new and vital voices with Scandinavian audiences.
