Market Art Fair

eiklid/rusten, NO

Petter Rusten and Gard Eiklid founded eiklid/rusten in August 2025 with a shared vision of creating a lasting platform for both artists and audiences.

After ten years running Golsa, Gard sought to bring his international perspective closer to home, while Petter, with over fourteen years at Brandstrup, brought extensive knowledge of the Norwegian art scene. Together, they aimed to establish a gallery that merges these perspectives – grounded in experience yet open to new ideas.

The gallery’s programme focuses primarily on contemporary painting alongside material-based practices. The artists represented are connected not by a single style or generation, but by a shared dedication to their craft. The gallery supports its artists in developing their practices over time, introducing their work to new audiences, curators, museums, and international galleries, fostering long-term relationships that create visibility and opportunities.

This year's presentation

Eiklid/Rusten presents a solo exhibition by Sverre Bjertnæs. Coinciding with his 50th birthday, the project becomes both a reflection and a turning point. It looks back on a career shaped by introspection and deeply personal narratives, while also opening toward a new chapter in the artist’s life. Themes of mourning and loss, which Bjertnæs will explore in a forthcoming book, are present throughout, but so is a sense of renewal—of beginning again halfway through life and with a new gallery.

At the center of the presentation is a monumental painting stretching across the main wall of the booth, creating a visual and emotional focal point. In front of it, a group of bronze sculptures rests on piles of wool blankets produced in collaboration with Røros Tweed, a gesture inspired by Michelangelo Pistoletto’s Venus of the Rags. Together, these works form an installation that weaves memory and transformation, weight and softness, the past we carry, and the future still to be shaped.
