The Value of Art – for the Brain, Society and Life
Culture journalist Karolina Modig and business researcher Erik Modig discuss their book Värdet av konst – för hjärnan, samhället och livet (The Value of Art – for the Brain, Society and Life), which compiles studies on how art affects us as individuals and the society we live in.
Through research across psychology, neuroaesthetics, economics, art history, and philosophy, the authors describe the concrete impact of art and culture on our brains, in small communities, in business, among children and the elderly, and in education, healthcare, and social care. They also discuss the differences between art’s intrinsic value and its effects, and how this fundamentally affects how we should view measurements of art and culture.
