Patrick Nilsson, SE
Patrick Nilsson, b. 1966, Högsbo, Sweden and educated at the Royal Institute of Art, Sthlm (1992-97). Over the years, Patrick Nilsson’s artistry has attracted considerable attention through his approach of working at the intersection between light and dark, black humor and disarming laughter.
It is a contrasting visual world that contains narratives of playfulness and brutality, conveyed through a grid of different perspectives and interpretations. An earlier theme dealt with supposed male violence and aggression, often depicted in grandiose architecture where drawings, ornamentation, lines, and details created an outward and apparent harmony. In his later works, however, nature has become the sole focus. There he explores his own view of nature.
He describes it as an investigation where nature is experienced as a series of contrasts between what is visible and invisible, accessible and inaccessible. From his earlier works, whose imagery was based on constructed narratives, there is now an unintentional and intuitive process where observation is the focus. His works have been exhibited extensively in solo- and group exhibitions in Sweden and internationally, most recently at Galleri Flach, Stockholm, 2024 (solo), Galerie Hübner & Hübner, Frankfurt Am Main, 2023 (solo), Loft8, Wien, 2019 (group), Galerie Ora-Ora, Hong-Kong, 2018 (group).
