Lea Guldditte Hestelund is a Danish visual artist educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (2015) and Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (2012–13). Hestelund’s work critically engages with Western ideals of gender and body representation, a trajectory initiated with Self-portrait as Discobolus and expanded over the past decade to introduce the notion of the caregiving body. Often overlooked in the history of Western art, this body becomes a central figure in her practice – expressing vulnerability, interconnectedness, and the complexities of motherhood. Through this lens, she explores the body as a contested cultural site, at once fragile and powerful.
