Jonatan Pihlgren, SE

Jonatan Pihlgren (b. 1993, Sweden), lives and works in Gothenburg, Sweden. He received his MFA inFine Art from Umeå Konsthögskolan in 2021.

Pihlgren’s practice is driven by improvisation and the transformative potential of both painterly and sculptural forms. His works often depict a mundane yet twisted reality, exploring the human condition with elements of fantasy and introspection.Describing his art as emotional and dramatic, Pihlgren begins each piece from a place of personal emotional resonance, allowing intuition to guide the process.

He draws inspiration from people close to him, his family and friends; as well as from animals, which frequently appear in his works. While primarily focused on painting, Pihlgren also works in sculpture and performance, creating works that seek to “haunt” and exist independently of their creator.
