Gun Gordillo, SE
Gun Gordillo is a Danish visual artist educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.
Over more than five decades, she has developed a singular practice centered on neon as a sculptural medium, where light is treated as material in dialogue with stone, metal, and glass. Her works unfold as poetic compositions that balance fragility and strength, redefining the possibilities of light-based art and expanding the notion of beauty and form.
Gordillo’s practice is characterized by an experimental approach that challenges conventions and creates new visual languages. By combining the enduring qualities of raw materials with the ephemeral glow of neon, her works open up spatial and sensorial experiences that move between the intimate and the monumental.
Among others, Gordillo has exhibited at Galerie Denise René, Paris, with whom she maintained a collaboration for more than forty years, as well as at Galerie Beyeler, Basel, La Maison Rouge, Paris ,and ZKM, Karlsruhe. She has realized major public commissions including neon installations for Banedanmark in Copenhagen, the heritage-protected installation at Hötorget metro station in Stockholm, and a large-scale work at VIA University College in Aarhus supported by the Ny Carlsberg Foundation. Her works are represented in significant private and public collections in Denmark, Sweden, France, and Germany.
