Sigrid Soomus, SE
Sigrid Soomus (b. 1997) lives and works in Malmö. She holds both an MFA (2025) and BFA(2023) from Malmö Art Academy. She is the Kyrkerud Artist in Residency Årjäng (KAiRÅ) this fall/winter.
Soomus explores the dynamic relationship between material and the body, engaging the full spectrum of sensory experience – touch, hearing, smell, balance, movement, and sight. For Soomus, material exists not as a passive element but as an active presence embedded in the world. As a sculptor, she navigates the shifting dialogue between material, body, and space, finding resonance in the physical and emotional exchanges that emerge through process. Bodily experience lies at the core of her practice, unfolding through direct encounters with material and the intuitive bonds that form between artist and object.
Soomus has participated in group exhibitions at Malmö Art Academy for her studies and at Celsius Projects in Malmö. In spring 2026, she will be part of Galleri Arnstedt exhibition showing a selection of recent graduates from Malmö Art Academy. Soomus has also been awarded the KKV Monumental Residency/grant for 2025/2026and the AAA-Foundation grant in 2025.

“I can never predict my sculptures, can never fully determine how they will look or how they will take place in the world. Everything happens as part of a thinking process; if I am visited by the thought of a form, it never fully leaves me. It’s almost like inhaling fragments of what is yet to come into being.”
