Heikki Marila (b. 1966, Finland) is known for his expressive, richly textured paintings that explore the tension between figuration and abstraction.

His thickly layered oil surfaces possess a powerful physicality, echoing the intensity of 17th-century painting traditions reinterpreted through contemporary social and visual themes. Marila won the Carnegie Art Award in 2011 and lives and works in Turku, Finland.
