Clara Gesang-Gottowt, SE

Clara Gesang-Gottowt (b. 1985) is a Swedish artist whose atmospheric paintings navigate the intersection of memory, time, and perception.

Her works possess a dreamlike, almost spectral quality, where abstraction and figuration dissolve into one another. Through delicate, layered brushwork and a muted, luminous palette, Gesang-Gottowt creates compositions that feel simultaneously fleeting and enduring, evoking the quiet tension between presence and absence.

Her paintings function as emotional landscapes—fields of sensation where personal and collective memories resurface in soft washes of color. Light, texture, and translucency play a central role in her process, with thin layers of oil paint building a meditative depth. The shifting hues and diffused forms in her work suggest impermanence, much like the light filtering through mist or the fading echoes of a distant horizon.

Gesang-Gottowt’s practice often returns to nature as a metaphor for inner experience. Skies, storms, and shifting horizons serve as poetic reflections of emotional states, inviting viewers to engage with their own memories and associations.

She holds an MFA from the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm (2013) and lives and works in Lund, Sweden. Her works are included in major institutional collections, including Moderna Museet (Stockholm) and Malmö Konstmuseum (Malmö).
