Galleri Hedenius, SE
Galleri Hedenius has evolved from a long heritage of the Swedish art industry. It was founded in 1965 by Michael Hedenius (1941-2024), who since the beginning represented renowned Swedish and international contemporary artists.
In 2021 Henning Hummerdahl, who has previously worked at Eskilstuna Museum of Art and Lars Bohman Gallery, established a modern branch of Galleri Hedenius and today it represents 15 Swedish and international contemporary artists who specialize in various mediums. The gallery is grounded on Hedenius long experience and history, and represents both established and emerging artists, thus Galleri Hedenius bridges different generations of contemporary art. Through curated exhibitions, the gallery is a platform for art experiences, knowledge, art discourses and meetings between various actors. Galleri Hedenius carefully selects contemporary artistry that speaks its own unique language, something that they passionately present to visitors.

This year's presentation
Anja Fredell’s work takes the form of tufted textile pieces, created using a gun-like machine—a tool that combines elements of a sewing machine and a drill. This technique demands intense, fast-paced, and physically demanding movements. By shooting yarn through fabric and following the outline of an underdrawing, the yarn on the reverse side is cut down, resulting in soft, three-dimensional, and tactile pieces that resemble paintings.
The exhibition will feature works of various scales, from monumental to smaller pieces, to emphasise the sensuous and spatial qualities of this artform. Alongside these textile works, pastel crayon paintings on paper will also be presented—a direction Fredell has recently explored. These paintings share the same semiabstract pictorial language as the tufted textiles. However, while the textiles emphasise physicality and dimensionality, the paintings strip the materiality down, leaving the colours to stand bare on the paper.
By combining the varied scales of her textile works with her pastel paintings, the aim is to showcase Fredell’s expansive, tactile approach to textiles while simultaneously highlighting the underlying pictorial language and the evolving trajectory of her artistry.
