BORCH Editions, DK

BORCH Editions was founded in Copenhagen in 1979 and is today considered one of the world’s leading producers and publishers of original prints.

The printmaking, always done in-house, is a close collaborative process between the artists, founder and master printer Niels Borch Jensen, and his team of printers. The collaborations often continue over many years, allowing the artists to build up a comprehensive body of printed work that explores the various aspects of the medium and ties in closely with their oeuvre.

This year's presentation

BORCH Editions will feature two vast print projects by Tacita Dean and Alexander Tovborg based on Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy from 1321.

Dante, a medieval politician and poet, wrote The Divine Comedy while exiled for two decades and sentenced to death for his criticism of the church. The comedy is seen as both a representation of Dante´s personal life crises and of the journey of the soul toward God. Over the past 700 years innumerable artists have addressed the eternal questions raised by Dante.

Tacita Dean and Alexander Tovborg have both drawn inspiration from The Divine Comedy and their interpretations of this influential text have led to two significant print projects that present two unique standpoints, differing in expression, scale and printing techniques.
