NILS STÆRK

Nils Stærk is a contemporary art gallery, founded in 1997, with an international profile. The gallery is dedicated to create a forceful art scene for contemporary art. Today the gallery represents mid-career and established national and international artists working in different media, approaches and genres.

At Market Art Fair, Nils Stærk will present a large ceramic sculpture in dialogue with woodcut paintings by Gert & Uwe Tobias and selected new works by Torbjørn Rødland.

Gert & Uwe Tobias

The twin brothers Tobias (1973, German, born Romania) are collaborators and are based in Germany. Their work centres on large-scale woodcuts, but also includes typewriter drawings and watercolours, handmade ceramic sculptures, and wooden constructions. They often combine these varied mediums — all of which display lush, vivid colours and strong graphic compositions in installations. Drawing on such diverse sources as popular culture, traditional Eastern European folk art, and art historical movements like Constructivism, the Tobias brothers create a body of work that is both playful and haunting.

Torbjørn Rødland

Torbjørn Rødland (1970, Norway) lives and works in Los Angeles, USA and Oslo, Norway. Rødland’s approach to the photographic medium, where he uses analogue photography in mostly staged scenarios, draws attention to the constructed nature of the image, while leaving open the potential for unexpected outcomes. His images hold the viewer’s gaze and as the artist states, his photographs aim to ‘keep you in the process of looking’. Torbjørn Rødland will present the solo exhibition The Fifth Honeymoon at Bonniers Konsthall this spring and is on view during the fair.
