Ebba Svensson

Ebba Svensson’s paintings are based upon experiences of nature and landscapes but open up to a mysterious and abstract world with an ambivalence to what is depicted. In the works, there is a visual struggle between what happens on the surface and in the depth of the image. The gardens and parks depicted in her works are reminiscent of post-impressionist painting from the early 20th century, but with a distinct relation to the present, where the lush greenery turns into suffocating sweetness and in the thicket of the shrubs rests a certain mystique.

The large scale paintings have a vibrant surface. The detailed brush strokes combined with vast, blurry colour fields, build the images almost like a noise or a flicker. Using painting as a tool, I try to create a place where fiction merges with reality. –Ebba Svensson
