Christian Larsen was founded in 1996 in Stockholm, Sweden. Over the last two decades the gallery has built a reputation for its dedication to presenting a dynamic and rigorous exhibition programme of both emerging and established artists from Scandinavia and beyond. After 11 years based in the gallery district of Hudiksvallsgatan, the gallery will be re-locating to a new space in Östermalm, opening later in 2019.
At Market Art Fair, Christian Larsen will present works by Gavin Turk.
Gavin Turk (1967, UK) is an artist known for his ironic approach towards issues of authorship in art. Often employing everyday objects or manufactured items, his works deal with issues of identity, authenticity and ‘myth’ of the artist. In the 1990s, he became part of the generation known as the YBA’s alongside artists such Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin. Turk has been awarded the Jack Goldhill Sculpture Prize and Charles Wollaston Award by the Royal Academy of Arts. The artist’s works are held in the collections of Tate, London; MOMA, NY and the Caldic Collection, Rotterdam among others.
The presentation at Market Art Fair will take a multifaceted look at the artist’s oeuvre and reflect the international aspect of the gallery’s programme. By combining earlier and later works, including works exhibited for the first time, the gallery will present an overview of Turk’s work – including sculpture, assemblages and wall-based works. Turks preoccupation with authorship, identity and value will lead to a presentation mixing both humor and seriousness in equal measure.
