Ruben Risholm, SE

Ruben Risholm creates sculpture and relief in wood and ceramics, as well as drawings, where each piece acts as a fragment of a shared inner world

Often working with entire tree trunks of various woods, Risholm engages deeply with the trees, allowing the material itself to guide and limit thecreative process. Religion, myth, and folklore are significant themes in Risholm’s practice, frequently connecting with his inner life and personal experiences. His work is driven by a strong belief in thematerialization of unconscious thought through his art.

The ancient Egyptian tradition of sculpture, where each piece fulfills an existential purpose, serves as a major influence. In his art, symbol, reality, and representation converge in serene figures that assume a role through their static poses and concentrated, intense presence.

Ruben Risholm (b. 1993) lives and works in Gothenburg, Sweden. He was educated at Helsinki Art Academy, earning a Bachelor’s degree (2020) and a Master’s degree (2022) from Malmö Art Academy.
