Niklas Delin, SE

Niklas Delin was born 1989 in Stockholm, Sweden where he currently lives and works. Delin holds a BFA from Trondheim Academy of Fine Art, Norway and an MFA from Konstfack, University of Art, Craft and Design in Stockholm.

The artistic process reflected in Delin’s painting is one of an intimate understanding of the artist’s own gaze. The images are objects, people, and environments from his own life, and through the act of painting, they change into new shapes and forms, always searching for the conception of light. A constellation of images where technique and time take an active role in the investigation of the subconscious. Niklas Delin’s first-ever solo exhibition was presented at the gallery in September 2023, titled At Each Island.

The presentation at Market Art Fair 2025 introduces the artist’s work in a suite of new paintings, exploring the characteristics of painting in relation to light, found in both exterior and interior environments, while also paying homage to art historical references. Initiated almost entirely on a dark foundation, lighter shades of colour carefully seep through the surface in Delin’s work. The paintings are delicate. The darkness transforms as it moves through constant motion towards the light, creating shapes and forms recognisable to the human eye. The image emerges through the cracks – often a story marred with impressions… at times melancholic and heavy, however, always introducing glimpses of light… hope and beauty seeping through each brushstroke.
