Larissa de Souza, BR
Larissa de Souza (b. 1995) is a Brazilian artist, currently living in São Paolo.
Larissa de Souza (b. 1995, São Paulo, Brazil) is a self-taught Afro-Brazilian artist based in São Paulo. De Souza centers the Afro-Brazilian woman within a visual language informed by Afro-Brazilian and Yoruba belief systems. Her compositions are constructed through layered applications of acrylic paint interwoven with fabric, found materials, and embroidery that articulates the texture of the scene and, at times, inflects it with symbolic meaning.
She has presented solo exhibitions at Albertz Benda, New York, and Simões de Assis, São Paulo, and has participated in major group exhibitions at institutions including the Museum of Modern Art São Paulo, the Museu de Arte do Rio, Instituto Itaú Cultural, and the Tomie Ohtake Institute. A finalist for the PIPA Prize in 2023, she has also participated in artist residencies in Brazil and Angola. Her work is held in public collections in Brazil and the United States.
