Jeppe Hein, DK
Jeppe Hein (b. 1974, Denmark) is internationally recognized for his interactive sculptures and installations that explore the relationship between the viewer, the artwork, and the surrounding space.
Blurring the boundaries between art, architecture, and social engagement, Hein’s works invite active participation, playfully challenging our perceptions of movement, reflection, and physical presence.
Using materials such as mirrors, water, and kinetic elements, Hein creates environments that shift depending on the viewer’s position, fostering a continuous dialogue between mind and body. His sculptures, site-specific installations, and watercolors encourage moments of self-awareness and contemplation, often prompting visitors to move, interact, and rethink their spatial surroundings. At the core of his practice is an exploration of human connection—both to oneself and to others—emphasizing joy, mindfulness, and the potential for shared experiences.
Hein has presented solo exhibitions at leading institutions including Centre Pompidou (Paris), Sprengel Museum (Hannover), Schirn Kunsthalle (Frankfurt), ARoS (Aarhus), IMA Indianapolis Museum of Art, Barbican Art Centre (London), Hayward Gallery (London), the National Gallery of Denmark (Copenhagen), and Bonniers Konsthall (Stockholm). His large-scale public works have been commissioned for Brooklyn Bridge Park (New York) through Public Art Fund, Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, and Bundeskunsthalle Bonn, among others. In 2019, he participated in the 58th Venice Biennale.
His works are held in major public collections, including Centre Pompidou (Paris), Tate (London), MOCA (Los Angeles), MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst (Frankfurt), and the National Gallery of Denmark (Copenhagen). Hein’s permanent installations can be found in Kistefos Museum (Norway), Fondation Carmignac (France), and across cities such as Berlin, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, and Stockholm.
