Jaume Plensa, ES
Jaume Plensa (b. 1955, Barcelona, Spain) creates works that are both powerful and serene, evoking tranquility through closed eyes that suggest dreaming or meditation.
His sculptures invite introspection, uncovering inner beauty and fostering a deeper, more honest connection with oneself. The elongated forms add a spiritual dimension, exploring the relationship between body and soul while giving the works an ethereal, almost weightless quality.
Plensa studied at the Llotja School of Art and Design and the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts. He has taught at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and collaborates with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Among his many accolades are the National Prize for Fine Art from the Government of Catalonia (1997) and the Velázquez Prize (2013). His sculptures are displayed worldwide.
