Isak Hall, SE
Often described as embodying “Nordic Transcendence”- a term under which he exhibited at Bonniers Konsthall in 2020 – Isak Hall’s work masterfully explores not only physical landscapes but also mental and emotional terrains, weaving together contemporary sensibilities with the timeless ideals of Romanticism in a refreshingly unique way.
Through refined craftsmanship and painting methodologies inspired by the Renaissance, Hall employs materials like tempera – a rare choice in contemporary art – to merge the sublime with the tangible. He draws inspiration from historical texts and recipes, using pigments like ultramarine ash and special glazes to create a spectral grey luster reminiscent of Dürer’s paintings. He captures the Nordic spirit through reimagining landscapes, viewed through an otherworldly lens. His work delves into realms beyond the confines of reality, exploring grander narratives of time and space, eloquently reflecting humanity’s eternal pursuit of understanding.
Isak Hall has an MFA from the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm, and his work has been showcased at renowned venues such as Bonniers Konsthall, Uppsala Cathedral, and was most recently featured in a solo exhibition at Bror Hjorts Hus. His works are housed in collections at well-regarded institutions including Uppsala Art Museum, Moderna Museet and Ståhl’s Collection.
