Ester Eriksson, SE

Ester Eriksson graduated in 2024 from the Master Programme of Fine Art at the Royal Institute of Art (Stockholm), has been awarded the August price (2020) and is for many known and loved for her comic strips Esters Rester, a series first released in 2017.

Most recently her works have been exhibited at Odenplan subway station, where her large sculptures with heavier bodily figures in black wax are balancing on fragile legs of wood. Giving evidence of her multi-disciplinary skill set, where the three-dimensional figures remind the viewer of dream-like characters coming to live from their saga.

Eriksson uses her practice to show her own perspective on society and everyday life. She works across a range of different means of expression such as drawing, painting, film, and sculpture. A practice that the artist herself describes as “one big impulse”, where one thing leads to another. The starting point for Eriksson’s work has long been to dig where she stands, working with her near-to iconic Goofy self-portraits to tell stories. With a great interest in the autobiographical, psychology and dream images, Eriksson tries to create worlds where she can be completely free.

Ester Eriksson graduated with an MFA from the Royal Institute of Art (Kungliga Konsthögskolan), Stockholm in 2024 with previous studies at Seriesskolan, Malmö and Gerlesborgsskolan, Stockholm. Her works have been exhibited at Liljevalchs, Bonnier Konsthall, CFHILL, Steinsland Berliner and Konstakademien. In 2020 she was awarded the August together with Kristina Sigundsdotter.
