Emma Sarpaniemi, FI
Emma Sarpaniemi (b. 1993) explores womanhood and femininity through playful and performative photographs.
In her self-portraits, the often-visible shutter release cable serves as a symbol of the subject being in control of their own image. For her photography is a medium of joy, empowering to dream of new possibilities of femininity, gender roles and the gaze.
Sarpaniemi graduated with a BA in Photography from the Royal Academy of Art the Hague (KABK). Her works have been exhibited in galleries, museums and festivals throughout Europe, recently at NEVVEN gallery in Gothenburg and Jarmuschek+Partner in Berlin in 2025. Her most notable presentations include Les Rencontres d’Arles (2023) and a solo show at Finnish Museum of Photography K1 (2024).
