Alyson Shotz, US
Alyson Shotz (b. 1964, Brooklyn, New York). Reflective materials add further dimensions, allowing pieces to come to life through what they reflect, and therefore existing in constant flux.
Shotz’s works take on a kaleidoscopic quality, where reality is defragmented and reassembled with every new glance, playfully engaging the observer’s eye. Her pieces continuously evolve, exploring the relationship between rotation and time, with paint that shifts in response to natural light and the viewer’s perspective.
Shotz was an Arts Institute Research Fellow at Stanford University (2014–2015). She holds an MFA from the University of Washington in Seattle and a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work is featured in esteemed collections, including The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, The Whitney Museum of American Art, and The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, among others.
